Wow, look at that line!

10 09 2010

They just let everyone in, but CHECK OUT THAT LINE!  It was wrapping into the far reaches of the forecourt activities!  After letting the early-birds in first, more people started shuffling in.  Once the clock struck 7 p.m., students were in another line waiting to get in.

The concert officially starts in T-minus-30 minutes, so get here now!

They’ve already started pumping the theater with amazing jams, so you wont be disappointed if you show up early.

And Here’s a “Thanks” to our Sponsors!

10 09 2010

After a long day of forecourt activities, we’d be rude not to thank some of the people who make Pantherfest possible!  Below are a couple images of some sponsor booths.  With a giveaways at literally every booth, it was a tough act to beat.

That’s, of course, until the Pantherfest bands begin playing!  Within the hour, Shiny Toy Guns are scheduled to start, followed by Kid Cudi.  The lines to get into the park are EXPLODING with students, so get here ASAP!

See y’all soon!

International Pantherfest Strong Man, Andy2

10 09 2010

Hey y’all!

Just before the crowds started to flood the Summerfest grounds for the Pantherfest Forecourt activities, I tested my strength at the oldest carnival game known to man!

There are three hammer & bell games near the obstacle course, and I took a whack at two of them.  Of course, I was strong enough to reach the bell both times.

Come down to Pantherfest and test your strength, along with tons of other fun games!  I’m off to do the obstacle course again. =)

Speed Meet

10 09 2010

Students came to meet other UWM students in the Union Concourse last night, as they participated in the “Speed Meet” event.

You may have heard of speed dating, however, speed meeting is where you make friends and meet new people.

Students gather in the Concourse to meet new friends.

Each student had a name tag and was assigned to a certain table. Students were then given about 3-5 minutes to get to know one another before the piano began playing. And when it did, students were to switch places.

Open to all UWM students, the Speed Meet started at 6:00pm and finished at 7:30pm.  By the end of the night, everyone seemed happy and many friendships were formed.

Because of the great turnout of this event, current and future students can look forward to next year’s Speed Meet.  Don’t miss out for next year!!

Signing off,

Union House Party: The Aftermath

9 09 2010

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Union House Party yesterday!  It was lots of fun.  In case you had to miss out, we took a couple shots of the party so you can check out how it went!

If you didn’t make it to the Union House Party, you still have opportunities to check out Campus KickOff events.  The activities go until tomorrow, ending with PANTHERFEST at the Marcus Amphitheater.

Have fun, be safe!

This, my friends, is Bungee Run. It was a big hit in the Union Concourse during the House Party. Basically, you get attached to a giant rubberband and have to run towards a basketball hoop and try to make a basket. Hilarity ensues.

If you participated in two or more activities at the House Party, you got free ice cream! Who can say no to that??

The Studio Arts and Craft Centre was super busy with everyone stopping by to make cool, personalized buttons.

Discover SCUBA = Awesome!

31 08 2010

Hey everyone,

So, here’s my official report on the “Discover SCUBA” Campus KickOff activity I did this afternoon: absolutely mind-blowing!

Like I said in an earlier blog, I suspected there would be some sort of training before we got into the water at Klotsche Pool. The guide could only take a group of eight people, so we all signed the paperwork and got a quick overview of rules to ensure our safety.

Then, we jumped in the water. First everyone practiced breathing in the SCUBA gear, and then it was time to go under. We did some exercises just beneath the surface in the shallow-end of the pool so we wouldn’t panic when 15-feet under the water in the deep end. Then we all did a quick lap under-water in the shallow end.

After that, the SCUBA teacher used hand motions under water to guide us towards the diving end of the pool.

As soon as we all approached the drop-off, someone standing near the pool threw a bunch of diving toys and plastic rockets in the pool for us to play with.

The next half hour was just AWESOME! Everyone swam at the deep end of the pool and stayed submerged the whole time! We did flips, played catch with plastic rockets, and found a couple Band-Aids! There was even a window under the surface at the deep-end where you can see all the equipment that cleans the pool in an adjacent room!

All-in-all, this Campus KickOff activity was an A+.

If you want to try it for yourself, don’t fear! Discover SCUBA is being taught again tomorrow, September 1st, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There’s a class at 1 p.m. and another around 3 p.m.

Happy diving!

Discover SCUBA, today!

31 08 2010

I’m beyond excited for today’s event! It’s called “Discover SCUBA” and is being held at the Klotsche Pool from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s my final year here at UWM, and I have wanted to try this SCUBA event EVERY year, but something always comes up (AKA, I’m lazy and forget about the event).

However, this year is different! I have nothing going on, and am dying to finally dive deep into the Klotsche Pool. I’m guessing there’ll be some sort of training for a while beforehand so nobody drowns or has a panic attack while 10-feet-deep underwater. I’m just wondering how much time I’ll get to swim around down there?

I’ll make sure to update soon to let y’all know how it went. There’s another class scheduled for tomorrow, so if you miss today, check it out from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow!

Wish me luck!
